Report: Cam Talbot Trade Talk Is Heating Up; Rangers "Out" On Mike Reilly
The New York Rangers may finally be on the opposite side of a bidding war, as Cam Talbot continues to be the top goalie target.
With a little over a week until teams file onto the draft floor in Florida, Cam Talbot's trade interest has started to pick up quite significantly. According a report by Darren Dreger earlier this afternoon, Talbot is receiving some serious interest from the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and San Jose Sharks. The Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers are also believed to be in the discussion, according to Dreger, but one of the Oilers, Flames, or Sharks are expected to be the favorites.
Just last week, we heard a similar report stating that the Oilers may be willing to part ways with the 16th overall pick, in exchange for Talbot. As a result, for the first time in quite a while, the New York Rangers are on the opposite side of a bidding war. The Rangers are in some desperate need of salary cap space for their upcoming RFA's, and getting a haul back for Cam Talbot will be a very nice start to the summer.
With Talbot receiving the most interest this close to the draft, it is expected that he will be the first goaltender to move during the offseason. It will tough to see Talbot leave, but if teams are reportedly offering the Rangers a first round pick for their backup goaltender, they would be silly not to listen.
One final tidbit from this afternoon is that the Rangers were informed that they are "out" on the bidding for free agent defenseman, Mike Reilly. It was certainly a long shot for them to land Reilly, given their depth chart, but there was no harm done in trying to lure him in.
