Report: Drury withdraws as candidate for Panthers’ GM job
The former Rangers captain has chosen to stay in New York
New York Rangers assistant general manager Chris Drury has withdrawn from consideration as the general manager of the Florida Panthers, according to a report by Larry Brooks of the New York Post. Drury, 44, has been the Rangers’ assistant GM since the 2016-17 season and was the head of player development in 2015-16.

On Aug. 16, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Rangers had granted the Panthers permission to interview Drury for the job. This is noteworthy not only because it would be a significant change to the Rangers’ front office, but also because the Rangers closed the door on the Buffalo Sabres when they requested to interview Drury for its own vacancy at the position of general manager in 2017 and did the same to the Minnesota Wild in 2019.
The Panthers fired former general manager Dale Tallon on Aug. 10. Recently, a story broke that Tallon is being investigated by the NHL for using racially-charged language while in the Toronto Bubble.
