Report: New York Rangers Land Kevin Shattenkirk in Free Agency
After years of speculation, years of smoke and fire surrounding mutual interest between Kevin Shattenkirk and the New York Rangers, it appear the two sides have finally struck a deal to bring the New Rochelle native home:
Unofficially,what I'm told is Shattenkirk signing with @NYRangers 4yrs 6.9 Million per year. @NHL @NHLNetwork .

Although the deal can’t me made official until 12:00 PM EDT, this appears to be a coup for Jeff Gorton. With rumors that Shattenkirk would have offers close to $50 Million available to him, it seemed like New York would be out of the running for the defenseman’s services. However, the temptation of playing for the team he grew up rooting for was too much for Shattenkirk to pass up, and the veteran blueliner seems to willing to sacrifice term on his contract to fit into New York’s plans. While the $6.9 Million cap hit may be a bit high, a four deal will keep Shattenkirk on Broadway through the his age 32 season in 2020-2021.
UPDATE #1: Conflicting reports are emerging regarding whether or not Shattenkirk has made his decision yet:
Talked to Shattenkirk camp. He hasn't decided where he will sign yet, reports otherwise are premature.
