Report: New York Rangers Looking To Make Room For Anthony Duclair
The New York Rangers are reportedly looking to make room for a possible Anthony Duclair addition, and are in the process of trying to move out a contract.
With Anthony Duclair impressing every single time he touches the ice, the New York Rangers are quickly preparing themselves to make room for the 19-year-old. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the New York Rangers are in the process of trying to make move in order to free up a spot on their reserve list to make room for Duclair.
The New York Rangers are at the maximum 50 contracts, with Anthony Duclair making a push for the roster. Because of his age (19) and when he signed (Jan. 2, 2014), his entry-level contact will not "slide" this season. So, he will burn the first year of that three-year deal in 2014-15 whether or not he plays in the NHL. Can't pin down who, but there is no doubt the Rangers are trying to move at least one body so there is room if necessary.
There was a long lasting debate a few weeks back whether or not Duclair would "slide" this year, and Friedman basically puts that rumor to rest. Now in terms of moving a player, it doesn't necessarily have to come from their NHL roster, it could be anyone who is currently on the Rangers reserve list. As it stands right now, the Rangers are stuck at 51 contracts, with Ryan Graves expected to slide when he returns to juniors, which would bring them back down to 50.
I pointed out yesterday how these next several days will be a good indication as to who has a legit shot to make the team, and who doesn't. The fact that the Rangers are already putting this process in motion tells you exactly how the Rangers feel about keeping Anthony Duclair.
