Report: Rangers re-sign AHL forward Daniel Catenacci

Yesterday capfriendly.com listed that Daniel Catenacci had agreed to a one-year, $650,000 deal with the Rangers. The contract guarantees him a salary of $100,000 in the minors.

Mika Zibanejad is now the only restricted free agents that the Rangers have to sign.

Last season the Rangers acquired Catenacci in exchange for defenseman Mat Bodie, the captain of the Wolf Pack. The diminutive forward was added to the Rangers farm team to help improve its offensive depth.

Catenacci had four goals and five assists in 19 games with Hartford after posting 13 points in 50 games with the Rochester Americans.

The one-year term of the contract is not surprising. Catenacci is already 24-years-old and has played four full seasons at the AHL level. He was originally a third round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2011. Thus far in his professional career Catenacci has struggled to find his scoring touch. Before being drafted by the Sabres he had three 70-point seasons in the OHL with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and the Owen Sound Attack.

Catenacci is projected to be a versatile depth forward, but there is a lot of competition for that role in both the NHL and AHL. This will be a big season for the 5-foot-9 prospect.
