Report: Rangers Speaking to Lias Andersson About Returning for Potential Season Resumption
The Rangers are trying to persuade the Swede to join them if the 2019-2020 season resumes.
The New York Rangers are speaking to Lias Andersson about returning from Sweden to join the Rangers for the potential continuation of the 2019-2020 NHL season, according to Sweden’s Götenborgs-Posten.
Andersson’s agent confirmed that President John Davidson and Head Coach David Quinn have spoke personally with Andersson about the possibility, but he did not offer any information into how perceptive Andersson himself is to the idea.

The NHL and NHLPA have agreed to a 24-team structure for continuing the season, if and when they are able to, which would see the Rangers facing the Carolina Hurricanes in a play-in series to determine who makes the playoffs. In preparation for the playoffs and potential injuries and Coronavirus-related illness, NHL teams will be allowed to carry 28-player rosters.
Andersson had previously left the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, with trade demands and later joined the Swedish Elite League’s HV71 on loan. Blueshirt Banter reported recently that Andersson and HV71 have had serious dialogue about another loan for 2020-21, but that the Rangers had not given up hope for repairing the relationship with Andersson.
