Rick Nash sidelined again with groin injury
The Rangers have been rolling lately and one of the biggest reasons why is the play of alternate captain Rick Nash. But the big forward injured his groin (again) in the team’s recent shootout victory over the Devils.
And, according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers will be without their best three-zone forward for an unknown amount of time.
That is because Nash, clearly the Blueshirts’ best player in his three games since returning from the groin injury he suffered in Brooklyn on Dec. 6, pulled the other side of his groin on that OT shift, The Post has learned.
Nash will be sidelined for an unknown period of time, beginning with Tuesday’s showdown against the Penguins, whom the Rangers lead by two points in the battle for first place in the Metro Division, though Pittsburgh holds two games in hand.
Once again the wheels are threatening to come off of a Rangers’ roster that just can’t seem to stay healthy.
Nash leads the Rangers in goals (tied with Michael Grabner) and shots this year. He had two goals and 10 shots in the three games he played after missing time with his previous groin injury.
The big winger has looked fast, powerful and at times dominant in the past three games. Nash has been the team’s best forward in many ways this season. Replacing his presence and impact in the lineup will not be easy for a Rangers team that is still missing Mika Zibanejad and Pavel Buchnevich.
