Sam Rosen Named Recipient of Lester Patrick Trophy
While there is surely some uncertainty surrounding the future of this Rangers team heading into the 2024-25 season, there is one thing we can be sure of and that’s the fact that Sam Rosen will absolutely be getting his well-deserved flowers all season long. As the news broke over the summer, the longtime voice of the New York Rangers will be retiring following the coming season and will be celebrated appropriately. This has seemingly begun as the Rangers announced this afternoon that Sam Rosen will be the 2024 recipient of the Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.
The trophy was first presented in 1966 to honor its namesake in Lester Patrick, who was a longtime hockey legend, former coach and General Manager of the New York Rangers. First awarded to Jack Adams, the honors have since been given to an extensive list of legends including Gordie Howe, Emile Francis, Phil Esposito, Doc Emrick, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Mark Messier, the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team and many more. A wide range of folks in the hockey world are eligible to receive the honors as the recipient is voted on by a committee including the NHL’s commissioner, a governor, a representative of the New York Rangers, members of the Hall of Fame, the NHL Broadcasters' Association, and the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.
Congratulations to Sam!
