Tony DeAngelo is the NHL’s second star of the week
Tony D had a big week
New York Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo has been named the NHL’s second star of the week for the week ending on Jan. 12. Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy was the first star and former Rangers goaltender Cam Talbot earned third star honors.
In the three games that DeAngelo suited up for the Rangers last week, he piled up three goals and four assists to lead all NHL skaters in scoring. Of course, the week was highlighted by his historic five-point outburst against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 9. DeAngelo had a hat trick and picked up two assists in the Rangers 6-3 win against their eternal rivals after picking up two assists against the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 7.

DeAngelo now has 11 goals and 25 assists in 44 games this season. He had 30 points in 61 games last season, so the 2019-20 campaign has already proven to be a career year for the d-man. He is currently sixth among NHL defenders in scoring and is a pending restricted free agent.
DeAngelo is just the second Ranger to earn the nod as one of the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week in the 2019-20 season. Mika Zibanejad was the first star of the week back on Oct. 6.
