Top Moments of 19-20: Brendan Lemieux Fuels Comeback Win in Montreal

Any time the New York Rangers head into the Bell Centre to play the Montreal Canadiens, there’s a 99.9% chance that the game will end in some sort of dramatic fashion. We roll back the tapes to November 23, 2019 where the Rangers came all the way back from a 4-0 deficit and somehow pulled off a miraculous 6-5 win in regulation.

Brendan Lemieux played a large part on the back end of the comeback as he registered two crucial goals, including a shorthanded marker, to fuel the Rangers resurgence late in the game.

His first tally of the game came at the 9:30 mark of the second period as he redirected a point shot from Adam Fox, and pulled the Rangers back within a single goal. Lemieux’s power play goal capped off a mini scoring surge by the Rangers as they rallied for three goals in a span of three minutes and 20 seconds.

Fast forward to the third period, and the Rangers still found themselves trailing by a goal after Artemiy Panarin’s 12^th goal of the season. Panarin was sent to the penalty box a few moments later, and New York was tasked with a game-deciding penalty kill. With less than 30 seconds remaining on the kill, Brendan Lemieux and Brett Howden broke in on a 2-on-1 rush the other way with a chance to finally tie the game. Lemieux redirected home a beautiful centering pass from Howden as he flew over the top of Carey Price, and tied up the game for the Rangers.

Lemieux’s equalizer wound up setting the stage for Jacob Trouba’s eventual game-winner as the Rangers stormed back and stunned Montreal. Brendan Lemieux’s time with the Rangers has been filled with plenty of highs and lows thus far, but his game against Montreal certainly stands out as one of his more memorable moments with the franchise.
