Will Cuylle Wins 2025 Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award
The award, named for the late NYC Detective Steven McDonald, has been presented since 1988 to the player who "goes above and beyond the call of duty."

The annual Steven McDonald Award is a distinguished honor for a Rangers player to receive as much as it is a cherished tradition for the New York Rangers community. Since its inception in 1988, the award is presented to a player, voted on by the fans, that "goes above and beyond the call of duty." The award's namesake comes from late New York City Detective Steven McDonald who was shot in the line of duty in the summer of 1986 and loved this team as much as anyone.
Last season, Vincent Trocheck was given the award and tonight Will Cuylle has been named the recipient in the 37th year of the award.
Going above and beyond - every shift, every game.

In just his second full season in the NHL, Will Cuylle has had a bit of a breakout year as he has cemented himself in a top-nine role with this team, spending most of the season as a top-six forward. In 74 games played, he has registered 18 goals and 21 assists for a total of 39 points. As a rookie last season, he led all first year player's in hits and this year, is second in the entire league in the stat. Cuylle's hard-nosed style of play, combined with his production in both ends of the ice makes him well-deserving of such a special honor.
Congrats to Will Cuylle!
